song of the year
on the last day of 2005, i've seen and heard a lot of year-end countdowns.. naturally because it's the end of the year.. (huh?! of course..) hehe.. and if i were to make my own year-end music countdown, one song will definitely be my song of the year.. it was kind of disappointing because none of the countdowns that i've heard had this particular song as their no. 1.. but who cares, this is my list..
10. Since You Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson proved that she can carry whatever image she decides to have.. nice words, nice melody, nice video, nice song..
9. Unbreakable - good thing MTV decided to launch an Unplugged show again.. she made a great performance not just for this song but her old songs as well.. i must say, this song is so soulful.. so Alicia Keys..
8. Superstar - Usher did a great rendition of this Carpenters original.. his voice suits the song so well, don't make me hear this, i might melt.. hehe..
7. Prom - with a very cool video, this is one great song from Sugarfree..
6. Jesus Take The Wheel - this song from Carry Underwood gave me goosebumps the first time i heard it.. very meaningful..
5. Cool - simple lyrics combined with a catchy tune and a video that fits.. a very nice song from Gwen Stefani..
4. Don't Forget About Us - has been out in a while but i still can't afford to pass on its music video or when i hear it on the radio.. indeed, Mariah Carey swept 2005..
3. Ordinary People - i like this because it is a humble song.. although some may get sleepy with this, i'm not one of them.. this is a worthy debut single from John Legend..
2. Tell Me Where It Hurts - alright now, i heard you laugh.. although you might think this song is overrated, i still like it.. anyway, what i liked first is the Kathy Trocolli version, just a coincidence that MYMP revived it and made it a little r&b-ish and modern..
and the number 1 song is..
drumroll please..
1. This I Promise You
hehehe.. kidding..
seriously, my song of the year is..
1. We Belong Together - up to now, this song amaze me.. tsktsk.. everything about this song is good.. the melody, the artist, the video, everything.. and the VMA performance: whoa!! the black and white effect gave all the justice that this song deserves.. not to mention the red gown of Mariah Carey which was the only thing in color.. tsktsk.. this is just a great great song.. also a great great album..
generally, a lot of good songs were realeased in 2005.. and when i say a lot, i really mean a lot.. but okay, top of my head.. there's Stick With U, The Last Time, Don't Love You No More, You're Beautiful, Because Of You, Must Get Out and many more.. the value of OPM artists and bands also sky-rocketed this year.. so i think 2005 was a good year for music altogether..
